Mixed Doubles Club Competition

07 May 2017 04:19

Written by: Chris Holden

On Saturday we had no less than 10 doubles teams turn up for our annual one-day mixed doubles competition. We had POTY points on offer, some shiny new trophies and plenty of beer and wine flowing. A great day had by all.....

There's nothing like some classy-looking trophies, a handful of POTY points and a mild (often) sunny afternoon to get the BHPC players down to the terrain. Well, that and a load of beer and wine...

Starting at midday and running for about four hours, we managed to get everyone to play four games each in a mini-league. One team- Alan and Jill - had an impressive unbeaten record, taking away the winners trophies uncontested with four wins and a massive +26 points difference. And all despite (or maybe because of) a few cheeky beers/glasses of wine around the half-way mark!

In second place, and taking home the runners-up trophies, were Terry and Julie. There were three teams all on three wins  (Terry/Julie, DavidM/Jill and Chris/Nick) and they were separated by only a few points each.

Luckily the sun shone for most of the day - there were even a few short sleeves on show for a while - and everyone had a great afternoon. We'd like to think Ian flew in from New York just for us but apparently he was in the area already. Still, it was lovely to see our longest-distance club member put in a few miles to join in.
